Tom Dikon

Biography

Tom Dikon’s harmonica journey began in the late 70s as a youngster in the hills of Vermont, where his musical prowess led to professional gigs while still in high school. He toured and recorded with the New England show band “Union Street” and was a featured recording artist for Green Mountain records…albeit much of these great early recordings are on now-defunct vinyl. After early years recording and touring with various artists in the greater New England area, he opted for a “short” stint in the Air Force…a career that lasted over 28 years.

While in the Service, Tom took advantage of learning various genres wherever the Air Force sent him--from slack key Hawaiian music in the South Pacific to vintage blues in central Europe--and rock, funk, country & swing at all points in between. While living in Belgium, he gigged regularly with blues guitarist virtuoso Bill Roseman and played with European legendary harpist Lew “Ludo” Beckers, blues pianist Roland, recording bass artist Von Roberts and many others. He was a mainstay of the central Europe and Brussels blues scene and gigged some of the great blues festivals and venues across central Europe in the early 90s.

Fast forwarding to modern times, Tom has since retired from the Air Force and continues to serve as a session and recording artist in the Tidewater area. In 2010 he joined forces with singer/songwriter Ron Fetner and won the Tidewater area’s International Blues Challenge (IBC), and competed in the 2011 IBC in Memphis. Tom & Ron wrote/released a fabulous acoustic CD/EP which received great airplay in the mid-Atlantic region.  Tom now fronts the "Jukes Boogie Trio" -- a fabulous swing/jump/boogie acoustic powerhouse featuring the finest musicians in the Tidewater area.  He is a veteran recording artist with Green Mountain Records, Clay Garden Recording Studios, Baywater Studios, and Wistaria Studios.  He's a featured artist for the Tidewater Arts Outreach Program, at Natchel Blues Network events, local radio shows, and performs highly entertaining harmonica clinics at blues festivals and various venues across the greater Hampton Roads area.   Tom just finished recording a CD with Chicago sax legend Eddie Shaw and the "757 Allstars" - a collection of the finest blues musicians in the Tidewater area, (or "757" area code).  Tom also has an artist's endorsement with Hohner harmonicas.

I've played every conceivable diatonic harmonica produced in the last 40 years...NOTHING compares to the tone, feel, and overall soul of a Hohner. My Hohner Deluxes are the king o' the heap!

Tom is an accomplished customizer and teaches private lessons in the area, and is a featured harp player/vocalist with numerous artists at blues clubs and venues across Virginia. He’s jammed with some of the very best--from Boston blues legend James Montgomery and weekly jams with RJ Mischo in their early years, to modern day greats Peter “Madcat” Ruth, the legendary Eddie Shaw, Chicago blues artist Fruteland Jackson, Li’l Ray Neal, Jackie Scott, Todd Parrott (Charlotte, NC) and Nashville harp wizard TJ Klay--among many others. He’s a student of legendary masters James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, Big Walter, and Paul DeLay while pushing the envelope of modern day techniques.

If you’re ever in the Hampton Roads area, catch one of Tom's performances with The Jukes Boogie Trio, or playing with other Tidewater blues & Americana artists. He delivers a lively, world-class performance every time.
